Taxonomy
Conoteuthis dupiniana was named by d'Orbigny (1842). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gurgy (d'Orbigny collection), which is in an Aptian marine horizon in the Argiles à Plicatules Formation of France. It is the type species of Conoteuthis.

It was corrected as Conoteuthis dupinianus by Fuchs (2019).
