Taxonomy
Palaedaphus was named by van Beneden and Koninck (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: D u]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaedaphus insignia.

It was assigned to Dipteridae by Woodward (1891) and Hay (1902); to Chirodipteridae by Campbell and Barwick (1990) and Long (1992); and to Dipteriformes by Sepkoski (2002).
