Ampullariidae was named by Gray (1824) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5311]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Ctenobranchiata by Olsson (1931); and to Ampullarioidea by Ponder and Warén (1988), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Novas et al. (2019).
