Troglopini was named by Mulsant and Rey (1867). It is extant. Its type is Troglops.

It was reranked as the subtribe Troglopina by Gimmel et al. (2019).

It was assigned to Malachiini by Gimmel et al. (2019); and to Malachiinae by Tshernyshev (2016) and Tihelka et al. (2021).
