Taxonomy
Acrolepis was named by Agassiz (1833) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Acrolepis sedgwickii. It is the type genus of Acrolepididae.
It was assigned to Palaeoniscidae by Woodward (1891) and Hay (1902); to Palaeonisciformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Acrolepidae by Diedrich (2009) and López-Arbarello et al. (2010); and to Acrolepididae by Bakaev et al. (2020).
