Platyceras spinigerum was named by Worthen (1883). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Capulus spinigerus by Keyes (1890); it was recombined as Platyceras (Orthonychia) spinigerum by Yochelson and Saunders (1967); it was recombined as Orthonychia spinigerum by Wagner (2023).
