Nautilus (Temnochilus) winslowi was named by Meek and Worthen (1870).

It was recombined as Nautilus (Temnocheilus) winslowi by Meek and Worthen (1873); it was recombined as Temnocheilus winslowi by Raymond (1911) and Sturgeon (1946).
