Murex noae was named by Lamarck (1803).

It was recombined as Fusus noae by Lamarck (1803); it was recombined as Rhopalithes noae by Grabau (1904); it was considered a nomen nudum by Chemnitz (1795); it was recombined as Clavilithes noae by Swainson (1840) and Beu and Marshall (2011).
