Neuburgella was named by Kazantseva-Selezneva (1981) [Sepkoski's age data: P u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Neuburgella cognominis.

It was assigned to Palaeonisciformes by Sepkoski (2002).
