Scelianoma compacta was named by Franz and Zhang (2017). Its type specimen is SEMC 339, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (SEMC coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
