Trachyceras gredleri was named by Mojsisovics (1882).

It was recombined as Protrachyceras gredleri by Tommasi (1899) and Ogilvie Gordon (1927); it was recombined as Falsanolcites gredleri by Rieber and Brack (2004); it was recombined as Eoprotrachyceras gredleri by Fantini Sestini (1994) and Pérez Valera (2005).
