Fenhsiangograptus extraordinarius was named by Sobolevskaya (1974). Its type specimen is 602x/1 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Climacograptus extraordinarius by Williams (1983); it was recombined as Normalograptus extraordinarius by Chen et al. (2005); it was recombined as Metabolograptus extraordinarius by Saparin and Ismail (2023).
