Pseudopalaeoaplysina was named by Fan et al. (1991) [Sepkoski's age data: P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 953]. Its type is Pseudopalaeoaplysina sinensis.

It was assigned to Axinellida by Sepkoski (2002); to Maeandrostiidae by Senowbari-Daryan et al. (2007); and to Disjectoporidae by Stearn (2015).
