Taxonomy
Dolichopteridae was named by Kjellesvig-Waering and Stromer (1952). Its type is Dolichopterus.

It was assigned to Stylonuracea by Størmer (1955); to Stylonuroidea by Tetlie et al. (2007); and to Eurypteroidea by Dunlop et al. (2013) and Dunlop et al. (2020).
