Polyxenus miocenica was named by Srivastava et al. (2006). Its type specimen is BSIP 38375-B and is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Payangadi Clay Mines, which is in a Burdigalian terrestrial amber in the Warkalli Formation of India.
