Taxonomy
Natica ampliata was named by Phillips (1836). Its type specimen is BM PG.1081, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Pileopsis ampliata by Goldfuss (1844); it was recombined as Naticopsis ampliata by Sedgwick and M'Coy (1855); it was recombined as Naticopsis (Marmolatella) ampliata by Batten (1966) and Gromczakiewicz-Łomnicka (1973); it was recombined as Marmolatella ampliata by Wagner (2023).
