Trachyceras ladinum was named by Mojsisovics (1882). Its type specimen is GBA 1882/003/0161/6, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Protrachyceras ladinum by Ogilvie Gordon (1927) and Urlichs (2017).
