Perleidus was named by de Alessandri (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 916]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Colobodontidae by Martin (1982) and CartanyĆ  (1999); to Perleidiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Perleididae by Lehman (1952), Beltan (1968), Beltan (1972), Schaeffer and Mangus (1976), Beltan (1984) and Lombardo et al. (2011).
