Dentalium priscum was named by Goldfuss (1841) [Dentalium priscum Münster in Goldfuss 1841].

It was recombined as Entalis prisca by de Koninck (1883); it was recombined as Plagioglypta prisca by Reed (1925) and Godefroid et al. (2006); it was recombined as Laevidentalium priscum by Razkusz (1932); it was recombined as Minodentalium priscum by Asato and Kase (2021).
