Dentalium ingens was named by de Koninck (1843).

It was recombined as Entalis ingens by de Koninck (1883); it was recombined as Plagioglypta ingens by Godefroid et al. (2006); it was recombined as Minodentalium ingens by Asato and Kase (2021).
