Taxonomy
Strophomena demissa was named by Conrad (1842). It is the type species of Stropheodonta, Strophodonta (Strophodonta).

It was recombined as Stropheodonta demissa by Hall (1852); it was recombined as Strophodonta demissa by McAlester (1963); it was recombined as Strophodonta (Strophodonta) demissa by Hoel (2011).
