Taxonomy
Strombodes murchisoni was named by Edwards and Haime (1851) [Lectotype chosen by Lang and Smith (1927:467) = Acervularia baltica Schweigger; Lonsdale 1839, p. 689, pl. 16, fig. 8, 8a-e. = Acervularia baltica Phillips 1841, p. 13, pl. 7, fig. 18E, a, b, c. = Actinocyathus balticus d'Orbigny 1850, p. 48. = Actinocyathus phillipsii d'Orbigny 1850, p. 107. = Arachnophyllum typus M'Coy 1850, p. 278. = Arachnophyllum typus M'Coy; M'Coy 1851, p. 38, pl. IB, fig. 27 and 27a. Strombodes labechii Edwards and Haime, p. 427.]. Its type specimen is BGS GSC6577 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Arachnophyllum murchisoni by Scrutton (1989).
