Taxonomy
Ammonites hybonotus was named by Oppel (1863). It is the type species of Hybonoticeras.

It was recombined as Hybonoticeras hybonotus by Breistroffer (1947); it was recombined as Hybonoticeras hybonotum by Berckhemer and Hölder (1959) and Howarth (1998).
