Titanocarcinus aculeatus was named by Busulini et al. (1984). It is the type species of Lathahypossia.
It was recombined as Lathahypossia aculeata by Schweitzer et al. (2007), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2012) and Schweitzer et al. (2020).
