Taxonomy
Orithyia labeschii was named by Eudes-Deslongchamps (1835). It is the type species of Necrocarcinus.

It was recombined as Necrocarcinus bechei by Bell (1863); it was recombined as Necrocarcinus labeschei by van Straelen (1936), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Karasawa et al. (2014) and Schweitzer et al. (2016); it was recombined as Necrocarcinus labeschii by Schweitzer et al. (2018).
