Prosopon torosum was named by Von Meyer (1860). It is not extant. It is the type species of Verrucarcinus.
It was recombined as Nodoprosopon torosum by Collins (1985); it was recombined as Verrucarcinus torosus by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2009), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2012).
