Prosopon insigne was named by Von Meyer (1860). It is not extant. It is the type species of Tanidromites.
It was recombined as Pithonoton insigne by Collins (1985); it was recombined as Tanidromites insignis by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweigert and Koppka (2011), Hyžný et al. (2011) and Schweitzer et al. (2012).
