Solemys vermiculata was named by Lapparent de Broin and Murelaga (1996). Its type specimen is MCNA 6325, a set of postcrania (entoplastron), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Laño L1A, which is in a Campanian coastal sandstone/siltstone in the Vitoria Formation of Spain.
