Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
A. Perez-Garcia and T. Smith 2021Member of Axestemys defined by the following exclusive character within this genus: reduced development of the xiphiplastral callosities. It shows the following unique character combination: longer than wide carapace; nuchal callosity restricted to the medial part of the plate; absence of suprascapular fontanelles; costal sculpturing not reaching the carapace margins; long anterior and medial free ribs; broad development of the hyoplastral and hypoplastral callosities; poorly ornamented outer surfaces of the hyoplastral, hypoplastral and xiphiplastral callosities; slender hyoplastra, hypoplastra and xiphiplastra, the plastral bridge having about a quarter of the hyo-hypoplastral length, and developing a broad drop-shaped fontanelle ahead the long and narrow medial hypoplastral processes, a subquadrangular fontanelle between these processes and the also long and narrow medial xiphiplastral processes, and a broad inverted drop-shaped fontanelle behind them.
