Taxonomy
Vectipithex smithorum was named by Hooker and Harrison (2008). Its type specimen is NHMUK M45654, a set of teeth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is How Ledge Limestone clay unit, Headon Hill, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial limestone in the Headon Hill Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Vectipithex.
