Taxonomy
Spisula pittsburgensis was named by Clark (1925). Its type specimen is SU 5205, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Mactra (Spisula) pittsburgensis by Durham (1944); it was recombined as Spisula (Mactromeris) pittsburgensis by Moore (1976); it was recombined as Mactromeris pittsburgensis by Hickman (2015) and Hendy (2020).
