Strophomena striata was named by Hall (1843). It is the type species of Amphistrophia.
It was recombined as Strophonella striata by Gillette (1947); it was recombined as Amphistrophia striata by Hall and Clarke (1892), Bassett and Cocks (1974), Harper and Boucot (1978), Brett (1999) and Rubel (2011).
