Taxonomy
Orthis compressa was named by de Sowerby and Murchison (1839). Its type specimen is GSM R6879, a valve (brachial valve), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Leptostrophia (Leptostrophia) compressa by Cocks (1967); it was recombined as Brachyprion compressa by Rong and Cocks (1994); it was recombined as Mesoleptostrophia (Mesoleptostrophia) compressa by Cocks (2008); it was recombined as Palaeoleptostrophia compressa by Cocks (2019).
