Taxonomy
Aquila dananus was named by Marsh (1871). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Aquila danana by Coues (1872), Hay (1902) and Shufeldt (1915); it was recombined as Geranoaetus danana by Hay (1930) and Lambrecht (1933); it was recombined as Buteo dananus by Wetmore (1940), Miller and Sibley (1942) and Wetmore (1956).
