Campylognathoides zitteli
Taxonomy
Campylognathus zitteli was named by Plieninger (1894). Its type specimen is SMNS 9787, a partial skeleton (Skull and partial postcranium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is near Hauff Quarry XXVIII, Holzmaden, which is in a Toarcian marine shale in the Posidonia Shale Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Campylognathoides zitteli by Unwin (2003), Padian (2008) and Andres et al. (2014).
