Ostrea diluviana was named by Linnaeus (1767).

It was recombined as Lopha (Lopha) diluviana by Bobkova (1961); it was recombined as Lopha diluviana by Gruendel (1982); it was recombined as Rastellum diluvianum by Malchus et al. (1994) and Schneider et al. (2013).
