Sorbini 1996Body ovate with prominent dorsal fin;pharyngeal jaw present with lower pharyngeal bone in close association with cleithrum; oral teeth small, unicuspid; vertebrae 25 (1 1 abdominal, 14 caudal); 3 supraneurals; continuous dorsal fin with 10 spines and 10 soft rays; anal fin with 2 supernumerary spines and 7-8 soft rays; three epurals, caudal fin with 9 + 8 principal rays; preopercular margin serrate.
