Burgundia was named by Dehorne (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo K Haut Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Burgundia trinorchii. It is the type genus of Burgundiidae.
It was assigned to Tabulospongida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Burgundiidae by Wood (1987) and West et al. (2015).
