Carcharias (Scoliodon) eocaenus was named by Woodward (1889).

It was recombined as Oxyrhina eocaenus by Chapman and Pritchard (1904); it was recombined as Isurus eocaenus by Chapman and Cudmore (1924); it was recombined as Xenodolamia eocaena by Cassier (1966).
