It was reranked as the superfamily Scorpaenoidea by Hay (1902); it was corrected as Scorpaenoidea by Casier (1966).

It was assigned to Pareiopliteae by Hay (1902); to Scleroparei by Casier (1966); to Scorpaeniformes by Schwarzhans (2003) and Fierstine et al. (2012); and to Perciformes by Betancur-R et al. (2013).
