Taxonomy
Gryphaea plicata was named by Lamarck (1819).

It was recombined as Exogyra plicata by Goldfuss (1833) and Gabb (1869); it was synonymized subjectively with Amphidonte (Ceratostreon) flabellatum by Malchus (1990).
