Chaetetes was named by Fischer von Waldheim (1829) [Sepkoski's age data: O Ashg-l P]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon.
It was assigned to Chaetetinae by Hill (1981); to Tabulospongida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Suberitidae by West et al. (2013) and West et al. (2015).
