Siganopygaeus was named by Daniltshenko (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Siganidae by Danil'chenko (1980) and Tyler and Bannikov (1997); and to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002).
