Spathognathodus polinclinatus was named by Nicoll and Rexroad (1968). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Ozarkodina polinclinata by Klapper and Murphy (1974); it was recombined as Wurmiella polinclinata by McAdams et al. (2017).
