Galeorhinidae was named by Gill (1862). It is extant. Its type is Galeorhinus.

It was reranked as the subfamily Galeorhininae by Hay (1902) and Noubhani and Cappetta (1997).

It was assigned to Galeidae by Hay (1902); to Chondrichthyes by Jordan and Gilbert (1919); and to Triakidae by Noubhani and Cappetta (1997).
