Taxonomy
Sebastavus vertebralis was named by Jordan and Gilbert (1919). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is El Modena, which is in a Miocene marine shale in the Monterey Formation of California.
It was synonymized subjectively with Sebastavus elatus by Fierstine et al. (2012).
