Deuterotetrapous plancus was named by Sarjeant (1967). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is P.C. 3307, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Dale Abbey tracksite, which is in an Anisian terrestrial horizon in the Keuper Waterstones Formation of the United Kingdom.
