Taxonomy
Atelelasma decorticatum was named by Cooper (1956). Its type specimen is USNM 110112a, a valve (pedicle valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Murat, which is in a Chazyan carbonate limestone in the Murat Formation of Virginia.
