Triplesia subcarinata was named by Cooper (1956). Its type specimen is USNM 117094a, a valve, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Columbia, Lebanon Limestone, Stones River Group, which is in a Blackriveran marine limestone in the Lebanon Formation of Tennessee.
