Bekkerella was named by Rosenstein (1943). It is not extant. Its type is Rafinesquina (Bekkerella) gentilis.

It was reranked as Rafinesquina (Bekkerella) by Reed (1938).

It was assigned to Rafinesquina by Reed (1938); and to Leptellininae by Cocks and Zhan (1998).
